Have you ever gotten to a point in your weight loss journey when things are proceeding nicely, you have lost a significant amount of weight and are so close to attaining your ideal goal weight, and then one weekend comes along and “something” happens? A study by revealed that one’s weekend lifestyle patterns has great affects on body weight.

One thing that will help you dramatically over the weekend is to stop trying to be perfect during the week. This perfection will cause you to feel deprived and by Friday your willpower runs out and you just want to let loose — enter the weekend binge or bad food choices.

To avoid sabotaging your diet, keep these three simple things in mind:

One: Treat your weekends like a weekday. The more we can keep our routine, the better. Studies have shown that consistency is the key to long term weightloss.

Two: Find other ways to socialize without food and drink as the focus.

Three: Stop rationalizing “cheating” on your diet. Weekends present all sorts of comfortable justifications for eating a bunch of non-nutritious foods.

But if you do overeat or indulge too much, instead of skipping meals and hours of cardio, try to prioritize tomorrow with these 3 tips:

  1. Have a consistent eating plan that you enjoy.
Prioritize eating balanced meals that make you feel good! Eating enough is key to having balance and control around food throughout the week
  2. Do NOT skip meals!
Immediately go back to your regular eating plan. If you skip meals thinking this will help, you are going to set yourself up to continue this vicious cycle next weekend (or sooner).
  3. Don’t restrict foods as punishment.
Instead of focus on “cutting out” foods, focus on what you can ADD. This will make a HUGE difference to not only your diet put your mindset throughout the week.
